YOGA IS MY TOUCHSTONE
It guides how I move, what’s on my mind and what’s on my plate. And it’s grown with me and my needs over decades of practice.
Whether in my 20s when it helped me get over the guilt I had after my mother committed suicide or in my 30s learning to take a pause and breathe before I lost my cool with two kids under two, or now in my 40s learning to accept each situation that can’t be changed as it is.
That’s why I dedicate my work to teaching students and instructors my unique style of yoga, meditation and living well—in person and online.
I discovered yoga 20 years ago, while producing a fitness video for MTV.
As a hardcore runner I never thought about flexibility, but the first time I stepped on the mat changed all that. Yoga allowed me to stop and breathe—probably for the first time in my whole life.
Although the physical aspects of my new yoga practice made my body feel great, it was the mental and emotional benefits of meditation that surprised me the most. I was hooked on day one. My daily “cushion sitting” is the sole reason I’ve been able to find inner peace and overcome some pretty hardcore "stuff."
At first, my regular yoga practice was enough to keep me fit.
But when my forties hit, my body changed and I knew that I needed to create something completely new on the mat.
I didn’t want to give up feeling toned and strong. And I knew how important it was for my health to continue building muscle and bone density.
I had no interest in going back to the gym, so I incorporated light weights into my vinyasa flow and watched my body change immediately.
This inspired me to develop Xen Strength Yoga with Weights
To create a modern twist on yoga that truly met my own needs, but also those of my clients. Today, I teach other yoga teachers to do the same through my Xen Strength certification.
Here's the interesting part.
My Xen Strength method got me the body I wanted, but practicing yoga off the mat also taught me how to cultivate patience, acceptance, and gratitude when I ended up with a body I didn't feel comfortable in for a while.
That's what I'm here to teach you.
There's more to yoga than getting a tight butt, but you should be able to have it all... the body you want and a life you love; all the while knowing that the tight butt doesn't equal happiness.|
