“Remember that sometimes not getting what you want is a wonderful stroke of luck.” ~Dalai Lama This morning I was in a rush. I normally make a huge effort to move throughout my day with ease, however after teaching a private and taking a leisurely yoga class, I felt “behind” on my work and didn’t […]

Compassion in Action
Around Valentine’s Day, in yoga classes all over the world, you’ll find teachers sequencing their classes around backbending and heart-opening, with a side of dharma usually relating to the heart chakra, love, or one of the four immeasurables- compassion. Why? Because it’s hard to be practice love and compassion toward others with a heart that’s […]
READ MOREThe Best Gift To Give This Season
I usually start my holiday shopping in early November, way before there is any chance of getting trampled to save a dollar, and no worries that they’ll run out of gift boxes. I go out of my way to buy thoughtful presents for each person on my list, something I know they will love and […]

Gratitude: [n] a feeling of thankfulness and appreciation. If you’d asked me, when I first started practicing yoga 17 years ago, what I wanted to get out of my time on the mat, I would have focused solely on the physical aspect of overcoming a knee injury. Now? I practice yoga and meditation so that I […]

How many times do you go to Whole Foods, turn sideways next to a shelf, and then reach your arm overhead, gracefully arching while lengthening through your intercostal muscles to grab that box of gluten free cookies? Yeah, I thought so. Most of us spend our days plopped in front of a computer, or playing […]

Since launching my Xen Strength Yoga DVD, I’ve been floating around on CLOUD 9- thanks to all the wonderful people who helped me sell hundreds of videos in the first few weeks that it was released. Not only did my students and friends buy it, but I had orders coming in from Canada, Australia, and […]

“Gratefulness doesn’t come from being happy, but happiness comes from being grateful.” Thanksgiving is like a big party at my dad’s house in Florida- 25 people eating outside at an elegantly set table overlooking the water-while kids happily jump in and out of the pool. It always goes off without a hitch, but there is […]

Thank you for meeting me here as I embark on a new adventure. I think it was just two years ago that I said to my husband; ” Please shoot me if I become one of those blogging, twittery-tweeting, facebook-posting people,” yet here I am writing a blog that contains a link to my facebook page and twitter account. Never say never!

What is it about having been a new yawker for 12 years that still makes me want to GO GO GO and DO DO DO 90% of the time? I’ve been practicing yoga for almost 15 years, and I know all about SLOWING down and turning in, and quieting the senses- but forgive me, I’m human- and I forget sometimes. That’s why at least once I year I kiss my family goodbye, pack up the 6 cd changer with an inspiring book, and hoof it to Kripalu.
